Finding Justice After a Terrible Car Accident: The Story of a Loving Mother Gone Far Too Soon
Becky Kersey loved life, her family, her friends, and anyone in need of a helping hand. According to her daughters, Becky truly never met a stranger and she would often invite people to stay with the family when they needed support. Becky made everyone who met her better for the experience.
On the day after Christmas in 2016, when a negligent commercial carrier driver ran a red light and t-boned Becky’s car, the lives of Becky and all who knew and loved her were irrevocably changed. Becky suffered a significant head injury in her car accident, and the Kerseys needed my help.
Upon meeting them, I immediately cared deeply for Becky and her extensive circle of loved ones, and I was committed to finding justice for Becky’s traumatic injuries. A once vibrant woman who exuded innate goodness and compassion by continually serving others, after her accident, Becky began to experience crippling headaches that caused such severe pain, she couldn’t speak. She was never the same.
Unfortunately, Becky’s severe injuries from her car accident altered her daily existence and greatly diminished her quality of life. Ultimately, although a clear connection could not be established between Becky’s accident and her death in 2018, she succumbed to her injuries.

How The Scott Pryor Law Group Came to Represent Becky and Her Family
I knew the Kersey family needed strong legal representation dedicated to fighting for Becky’s voice to be heard. Becky led a full and loving life, and is still deeply missed by all who knew her.
Although no amount of compensation could bring her back or heal the void in her loved ones’ hearts, the Kerseys deserved financial recognition of their tragic loss. They needed a personal injury lawyer who knew how to stand up to insurance giants and help them to receive a fair settlement.
Becky’s story is a reminder of the ripple effects gross negligence can have on an entire community. Insurance companies often solely see case numbers and are apathetic to the people behind the claims — these companies do not want to pay for pain and suffering or offer a just settlement.
Insurance giants are reluctant to pay out for their customers’ negligence and might offer paltry financial compensation for lives that can never be made whole again. The Scott Pryor Law Group will battle to ensure victims’ voices are heard.

The Story of Becky’s Life and Her Impact on Her Georgia Neighbors
Becky Kersey married her loving husband in Statesboro, Georgia in 1969, and the couple spent the next 47 years raising their family, including two adopted daughters. Becky worked the night shift at UPS, and spent much of her free time helping an elderly friend get to her doctor’s appointments and ensuring her friend always had groceries and other necessary essentials.
Becky had also lived in China for three years and was passionate about taking care of the Chinese community in Georgia. When a Chinese woman needed urgent medical care and didn’t know how to access it, Becky rushed to her aid.
A long-time friend of Becky’s summed up her character by recalling how kind, loving, and gentle she was to everyone — she made people feel like they belonged.
Becky’s daughters valued and loved their mother, and knew she was exceptional. They remember an early morning prior to her car accident when she was late returning home from her shift at UPS. The Kerseys worried until she showed up later that morning and explained what had happened.
On her way home, Becky passed a young mother and her child walking alone at 5:30 a.m. She stopped and gave the child a ride to daycare before dropping the mother off at her workplace. This type of selflessness was just par for the course for Becky.

The Car Accident that Changed the Kersey Family
The holiday season should be full of joy, and for Becky Kersey, spending Christmas 2016 with her close-knit family had many great moments. Sadly, Becky’s compassionate and full daily routine was permanently altered during the days following Christmas.
On December 26, 2016, Becky was T-boned by a commercial carrier driver who plowed through a red light. Her car spun through the intersection and was propelled backward before hitting a telephone pole.
When Becky and her family contacted me after the accident, I quickly agreed to become their car accident lawyer and take the case. The driver was in a company truck and the fact that they ran a red light appeared on the initial police report. However, the insurance company did not want to pay just compensation and slow-rolled Becky’s claim.
Fighting for Justice for Becky
Although Becky’s case wasn’t settled until after she passed away, it was vital that her family could find justice and recognition for the trauma she endured. Her medical expenses needed to be covered, but so did the immeasurable losses she suffered as a result of her head injury.
I painstakingly covered every detail and unique circumstance of Becky’s situation because she and her family needed to find the justice they deserved. By resolving the legal case, when Becky passed away, her family could focus on grieving and healing together, rather than experience unnecessary financial burdens.
The Scott Pryor Law Group works to provide more than legal support — peace of mind and the chance for emotional healing is just as important as a successful verdict. We’re committed to showing our clients the same care and compassion we’d provide to our own family members after a tragic loss.

The effects of Becky’s head injury
The impact of Becky’s car accident on the rest of her life was immediate. Even with medical intervention, her headaches grew in severity and pain. She lived a shell of her former life as she was no longer able to find the energy and painless activity to return to her routine.
There were days when Becky couldn’t get off the couch and her headaches rendered her unable to speak. Her family and friends noticed the changes and were desperate to soothe Becky’s pain.
Less than two years after her accident, Becky passed away.
Overcoming Unique Challenges
Although it seemed likely that Becky’s death was a direct or indirect result of the injuries she suffered in her car accident, it proved near impossible to establish a direct connection to establish a wrongful death case. However, the commercial carrier was found liable for the painful injuries Becky endured directly following her accident.
The Kerseys first consulted me immediately after Becky’s accident in 2016 and she passed away on January 23, 2018. In that time, proving the gross negligence of the driver who hit her and the liability held by the commercial carrier for their employee’s actions was challenging.
The commercial carrier has an entire legal department to dispute any insurance claims or lawsuits, but that didn’t deter our fight. We would not back down from seeking compensation that Becky was rightfully entitled to and supported her family as we offered them guidance through the legal process.
A Successful Outcome
I approached Becky’s case with an unwavering dedication to achieve a successful outcome and demand her voice be heard. I relentlessly pursued just compensation from the insurance company and refused to advise the Kerseys to accept any compensatory amount lower than they deserved.
After a long battle, the commercial carrier was found liable in Becky’s car accident and was required to pay compensatory damages to her family. Unfortunately, Becky’s case was not resolved before she died. However, the amount of compensation awarded to the Kerseys on her behalf covered her extensive medical expenses and more.
A successful outcome in this case provided a financial cushion to allow Becky’s family to focus on healing and alleviated some of their immediate monetary burdens.
