Becky's story

Becky Kersey never met a stranger, her daughters say. The day after Christmas in 2016, a commercial driver ran a red light and T-boned her car. The head injury she suffered changed the rest of her life. Her family turned to The Scott Pryor Law Group, and the commercial carrier was found liable.

Carrier found liable Car Wreck, Head Injury

The commercial carrier paid compensatory damages to Becky's family.

Who was Becky Kersey?

Becky Kersey married her husband in Statesboro, Georgia, in 1969, and they spent the next 47 years raising their family, including two adopted daughters. She worked the night shift at UPS. In her free time, she helped an elderly friend get to her doctor's appointments and made sure she had groceries.

Becky had lived in China for three years, and she looked after the Chinese community in Georgia. When a Chinese woman needed urgent medical care and did not know how to get it, Becky rushed to help.

One morning before the crash, she came home late from her UPS shift. At 5:30 a.m. she had passed a young mother and her child walking alone. She drove the child to daycare, then dropped the mother off at work.

A friend of many years remembers how kind, loving and gentle she was with everyone. She made people feel like they belonged.

What happened in Becky Kersey's car wreck?

On December 26, 2016, a commercial carrier's driver in a company truck ran a red light and T-boned Becky Kersey's car. Her car spun through the intersection and was pushed backward into a telephone pole. Becky suffered a significant head injury. The first police report noted the red light.

Crippling headaches followed. Even with medical care, they grew worse. Some days Becky could not get off the couch, and the pain left her unable to speak. Her family and friends saw the change and were desperate to ease her pain.

Becky died on January 23, 2018, less than two years after the crash.

How did The Scott Pryor Law Group build Becky's case?

The Scott Pryor Law Group took Becky's case soon after the crash. The police report showed the driver ran the red light, but the insurance company did not want to pay fair compensation and slow-rolled the claim. The commercial carrier also had an entire legal department to dispute claims and lawsuits.

We had to prove the driver's gross negligence and the carrier's liability for its employee. We covered every detail of Becky's situation and refused to advise the Kerseys to take less than they deserved.

Her death seemed likely to be a direct or indirect result of her injuries, but the direct connection a wrongful death case needs proved near impossible to establish. The case went forward for the painful injuries she suffered after the crash.

How did Becky's case end?

Becky's family won. The commercial carrier was found liable for Becky's car wreck and had to pay compensatory damages to her family. Becky died before the case was resolved. The compensation covered her medical expenses and more, so her family could grieve and heal together without added financial strain.
